Chris Mathews admits he feels a ‘thrill’ going up his leg listening to Obama

I have to tell you, you know, it’s part of reporting this case, this election, the feeling most people get when they hear Barack Obama’s speech. My, I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don’t have that too often … No, seriously. It’s a dramatic event. He speaks about America in a way that has nothing to do with politics. It has to do with the feeling we have about our country. And that is an objective assessment.

  1. I watched msnbc during the election coverage, and it was amazing to see how moved he was over it all – of course, so was I. Even Pat Buchanan was gushing over Obama at the time. I think that’s changed now though…

Don’t think we’ve had anyone in politics that can deliver a speech like Obama. Let’s hope he can back it all up with action!

I agree that Barack Obama is an excellent speaker, but I think it is more important to judge him by the content of his speeches rather than delivery. He’s got charisma and a silver tongue, yes, but the same was said of Hitler, Mao and Lenin.

  3. I still don’t understand why people keep making Obama comparisons to dictators – especially Hitler. One could just as easily compare him to Kennedy, regarding speech delivery instead. I DO agree – content matters a great deal. But what is it with so many on the right comparing him to Hitler? Are Jews being herded into camps, or a revolution against the government being incited?

I don’t doubt that you are unable to see the comparison, many are. And if this president is as malevolent as Hitler, I doubt many will. No one understood it in Germany, until it was too late. But you must concede that this President is the most radical man who has ever entered the White House, and he was virtually created by the American mass media. He has denied the constitution on several occasions, and has promoted such people like Cass Sunstein, John Holdren, Van Jones, Mark Lloyd—these are all radicals in his circle of advisors. But what’s most disturbing is the unity he creates around his image, rather than America.
